Steadily grown from centuries of tradition
SHW stands for tradition and progress in equal measure – and has done so since 1596! With our current 95 employees, we manufacture products such as tines, knives and flails for the agricultural machinery sector/industry. In addition, we produce hand tools for the garden as well as for construction, forestry and agriculture.
Our products are exported worldwide to every country with an agricultural machinery industry or with agriculture as an important branch of industry. With an export share of over 75 percent, we can justifiably call ourselves an internationally active company. In order to offer fast delivery times and the best possible customer service, we have established warehouses in Little Rock, Arkansas/USA and Retford/UK.
With the continuous improvement and modernisation of our manufacturing methods, we have always combined tradition with progress – always focusing on the high quality of our products. In order to meet this demand, SHW Schmiedetechnik uses only the highest quality special steels, which are processed using the latest forging technology.

In 1996, the “Königshammer” museum was founded. Thanks to the initiative of a group of retired master blacksmiths!
Our company can look back on a centuries-old history that dates back to the 13th century. It all started with mining for iron ore and precious metals in Christophstal, about 3 km from the current location. The region was under the rule of Duke Friedrich von Württemberg, who was later appointed king. The latter promoted the mining of ores and the production of agricultural implements. The valley also owes its present name -Friedrichstal – to him. In 1600, the first hammer mill was established and the production of hand tools was verifiably started. The company, once owned by the state of Baden-Württemberg, was later sold and privatised to Schwäbische Hüttenwerke (parent company MAN). In 1996, the company was separated from the group and is 100% privately owned.

The environment is very close to our hearts at SHW. After all, we are surrounded by intact nature here in Friedrichstal. And we want to keep it that way. We are all the more pleased to have received certification for our energy management system. This award proves that we do our best to keep CO2 emissions in our production as low as possible. It fills us with joy that we meet the standards again this year and can thus make our contribution to preserving our environment.
